1. Take advantage of holiday sales, seasonal clearance sales, and Black Friday in July Online sales
Holiday sales, such as July 4th 2019 sales that are going on right now, are great for snatching great deals. Many stores usually extend these sales past the holidays. And you can find sales around this time in a wide array of retailers, both online and in store.
Post Holiday Event Sales – Get Discounts on Seasonal Items That Can Be Great All Year
Also, as we get past some holidays that many buy decorations for and serving supplies, you may be surprised at how much goes on sale! It can be a fantastic time to snatch some amazing deals on:
- Outdoor furniture (which can sometimes be used indoors too);
- Lights;
- Dining essentials. (Suggestion: if “typical summer” colors are what you otherwise tend to decorate with, such as light blue, then now may be a great time to find some good serving plates, bowls, glasses, and dining items at a huge discount. Also, it is a great way to incorporate some fun prints!)
- Succulents and other plants – including indoor, outdoor and artificial;
- Rugs and mats;
- And so much more!
I am constantly surprised at the fantastic steals I find during seasonal inventory changes. Frequently, I have found great deals on fairy lights, decorative jars, glassware, and other fun decor items that can be used all year long.
Repurpose – Use Old Items and Items on Sale to Create Great New Ones
Also, do not forget how repurposing can be done on a huge budget using some of the items on sale during holiday sales, July Black Friday sales, and seasonal clearance sales. For example, outdoor cushions can be used for a DIY storage ottoman. Check out Pinterest for some great ideas on how to make your own storage ottoman.

2. Use Car Sharing and Home Sharing Vacation Rentals for your travel AND to Make Extra Money
Airbnb
Airbnb.com is a way to rent out other people’s homes, apartments, condos or hotels at a discounted rate.
- You can both grab an ideal view at a discounted price and have the opportunity to feel a bit more a part of the area you are visiting by experiencing how it is to live there.
- Additionally, while you are on vacation, you can consider renting out your home on Airbnb as a way to make money while you are on vacay.
Vrbo
Vrbo is another great website to check out for neat vacation travel accommodations.
Maven – for car rentals and car sharing
- This cool app and website let you rent cars by the hour and offers a new spin on car sharing.
- Looking to rent a car from someone nearby? You can with Maven (in select cities).
- Also, if available in your city, you can look into renting your car out as a way to make extra money during times you are not using your car. And you can rent a car through Maven to do some side gigs and part-time jobs involving driving.
