8 Ideas for Temporary Jobs for More Pay

Temporary Jobs! More commitment more money right?

I have been busy with some more contract type or temporary jobs lately…so I thought this may be timely. Contract or temporary jobs to me are not necessarily a side gig per se. I suppose for some they are. But to me, it is a bit different in that there is a little more of a commitment. Perhaps that is a mental thing. So, nomenclature aside, these are still a way to make money! And so this is my 8 Ideas for Temporary Jobs that Can Yield a Full Time Income. Or temporary jobs that can become full time jobs. Or not! But they can typically yield a bit more than your side gigs or surveys….

We are maybe no longer in the work from home or online world. But, some of these can be found via apps or websites or list serves! So, if you want a longer-term type job (even if it is an 8-hour shift versus a quick 15-minute gig), here a list for you.

8 Ideas for Temporary Jobs for More Money (and that can sometimes be full time income)

1. Dog Walking!

I have mentioned this before in my master list of money making ideas post. Since then, I have tried out Rover myself as a walker. And will do a post on that/dog-walking separately that is going to be filled with cuteness.  So, look forward for a post on my experiences dog walking through it. [KEEP WATCHING!!]

Rundown:

For now, here is a quick run down from my experience, talks with other dog walkers, and research reading other blogs:

• Not all dog walking options will be available in your area. So you first need to see what is!
  • Some can me much more local than others. Others may be more widespread but perhaps not in your area.
• With some of these services, they set your rates.
  • For example, Wag! I have heard will set the rates based on area and service. Perhaps this is easier for you.
  • Others, such as Rover, you choose your rate for the service. However, note that you need to set it wisely in comparison to the rates of other nearby walkers. Also, do look at how much of a percentage the platform keeps a cut of – because that does add up, depending on the percentage and the rate.
• If interested, check out what is available in your area because there can be very many – either local or national that service your locale. Just find the one that works for you and check out a few.
• Also, it may take time to get your first few walks!

2. Survey Merchandiser

• Available: Get the app on the App Store or on Google Play.

• Although I mentioned this app in past posts (see here for one), this app is unique. Why? It offers a nice mix…

1) It has side gig type, quick jobs

(akin to Field Agent and others mentioned in my post on side gigs). These may pay less but are fast. For example, a few quick pictures of some items, that may take about 15-20 minutes to complete.

• For this app, these are under the “claim and go” option.
  • After claiming a job, you get anywhere from a few hours-24 hours (occasionally more) to complete it.
  • NOTE: if you need more time – try asking.
  • Also, note that some under claim and go require a little more than pictures. My tip – read the instructions. If they sound confusing, ask.
• You may also get texts, emails, and/or notifications on your phone about nearby jobs that pop up that may be displayed in the app, but not always, or may be new.
  • you can opt out but if you get texts, you can also ask some questions if it looks confusing!

2) In addition to shorter side gigs, this app also offers some longer ones, more so in the temporary jobs area.

• For instance, you can sign up for 4-8 hour jobs. Yes, this is not a very long term job but it is a good way to grab a longer period of paid time versus looking for short gigs.
• It is also a great option if you only have a day or so to commit to something.

Basically:

• I think this can be an AWESOME option to quickly find a short-term job that leads to a quick means of income. Whether it is for a short job or a longer one (in terms of hours but sometimes on a weekly recurring basis), this app does stand out in that it offers both possibilities, plus the ones in between.
• Questions??? If things look confusing at first, ask questions. I was hesitant to do much with this app at first because I was unclear of what they were asking. Feel free to ask me and I will try to help if I can. The lingo used for these tasks threw me off a bit because I had not heard it before in that context. But it is usually a lot easier than it sounds.
• Other things to note:
  • if you have a car and/or printer, this is a great app for you. I have neither. But if you do, there tends to be similar types of jobs at multiple chain store locations so having a car there helps because after the first one it feels very easy to do a few more.
  • Also, some do require you print a sell sheet out to hand to a manager. I have not done these, but have heard they do not take much time. Something to consider.

3. Indeed/Craigslist/Any Job Search Site

• Seriously, search these. Temporary jobs are definitely on here along with part-time, contract, full-time, and everything else.
• But, be careful here – only because emails become overwhelming. However, they can lead you to some good prospects for short term, temp, remote and long term job opportunities.
• My tip? Upload your resume and apply to jobs that look like a fit when they pop up. Some are very easy to apply to once your resume is uploaded.

4. Are you Handy?

• I have mentioned platforms like TaskRabbit before. However, do not devalue Craigslist (as mentioned already but for searching jobs – you can definitely post services you offer too!). Or just posting your own ad really anywhere that works for you. Also, you can search Indeed for some ideas.
• Be creative. If you are handy, you have a skill. A skill that can likely pay. Put it out there and see. Not all of us are that handy and some of us will pay to help make up for that.

5. Any degree or other credentials (which spans beyond degrees)?

• Yes, professional degrees and positions searching for people with those have apps as well. Many overlap with ones I mention.
• However, for specific degrees, I would suggest some googling to find one. Seriously. You would be surprised.
• I would list them if I knew them all and am happy to add some if provided with suggestions via comments or my contact page.
• Other credentials though – you do not need a degree. Knowing another language, for example, can be very helpful. So can knowing computer programming, which you can learn sometimes via free methods online.
  • So this is not limited to anyone since you can all learn something!

6. Ok so you are thinking, shut up already, I just want a part time job.

• You know what I love about JobSpotter (which I talk about in this post on 5 microtask apps)? I see the nearby establishments that are looking for help.
  • So, while I can earn some Amazon gift card credits taking pictures of these help wanted signs, I also hope I help those out on Indeed looking for local jobs.
• If not, I do now know that they ARE out there. Do not underestimate the possibility of potential jobs right there in front of you.
  • If you want to doubt me, well try out JobSpotter for a little and at least make some money from that!

7. Let’s drive – Uber/Lyft

• Want to drive some? Specifically, drive other people? Well Uber and Lyft may be a good bet. (I also heard that others are emerging in some places)
• I cannot speak from personal experience, though, unfortunately; but I do believe they are worth checking out and reading up on.

8. Be creative

• Hey, it may not be from home or it may not be via an app or website, but if you can do it, try it.
• If you have an idea – especially something you really like to do anyways – try it.
• If you are short of ideas (like me honestly), try searching around other money making sites/gig sites/freelance sites/crafty sites/whathaveyou.
• Someone else may mention something that triggers a similar idea that will work for you. It is totally fine to find some inspiration.
• And if you enjoy it, all you can lose is time. (although, if in a money crunch, do temper the lost time while nourishing what you love. That way you do not set yourself up for a bad financial situation but do not grow to resent something you otherwise love if it maybe does not immediately pay off.)
