Wandering For Money - Green Brick Road

New Year 2021

Here are some tools and resources to help you start off the new year 2021. Ways to save money, free tools for healthy habits, and more.

Happy New Year 2021 (a bit belated)

Like many people, it was hard to think of happy new year 2021, after this last year. And so I have not posted as much for many personal problems. While I am grateful for everything I have, the last year was hard. However, I know I was lucky in comparison to so many others. And I know that many are still struggling.

So it is a New Year in 2021. Let’s look at some ways that can help us during a hard time.

Now, there are *some* silver linings to this virtual lifestyle.

For example, there are very many mental health resources, such as online therapy and many more support helplines available than we had before.

Please do a quick search for your area if you are in need of help, and turn to a professional, or call an emergency helpline, if in a crisis. *This is not a replacement for a professional, or in any way meant to provide mental health counsel. And so please know a professional should be consulted, should you need this. I am only providing ideas.*

For one resource, visit this CDC webpage: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/managing-stress-anxiety.html.

Other Note

-If you need additional resources or help finding someone for your situation, please contact me, but only after contacting a local emergency help group if that is what you need.

Now what can help??

Here we go with some things that I promise will help at least some…

Exercise

Another great thing about the pandemic is we are finding out that there are tons of free exercise options! One I like is FitOn. Check it out here: https://fitonapp.com/.

It is an app with a variety of types of workouts from high intensity to yoga to focusing on certain areas. And it is free!! Another free app to check out is: 7 minute workout, available on both the App Store for iOS and Google Play.

And, see these posts for more:

But, if none of these suggestions are your thing, then check out some YouTube videos or other of the many FREE fitness apps available right now. Or look up exercises you can easily do at home with no equipment.

Social options

Now, there are more AND different ways to be social in a new way, which can be good. After all, it is a new year in 2021 and so maybe this is the year you can find some new hobbies, activities, and interact with people from around the world.

Obviously, Zoom is a great resource to keep in touch with people all over or close by, while maintaining social distance. And you can do many fun activities on zoom such as play games, paint together, cook together, etc.

For example, MeetUp is a great way to join social activities virtually. One that I participated in recently included remotely visiting some museums around the world and a discussion of that.

Saving on Groceries, Delivery and Take Out

So if the new year 2021 means ordering out and getting groceries delivered, there are ways to save.

Also, if you are a first time user of a grocery delivery platform or a food delivery platform, then you can usually get some savings. See the following:

  • Instacart
  • Shipt
  • Amazon Whole Foods
  • Amazon Fresh
  • Giant Delivery
  • Safeway Delivery
  • Peapod
  • …..And more.

Many of these offer discounts on your first grocery order or delivery if you spend a certain amount. Typically I see discounts of $10-20 off, plus free shipping, for your first delivery (or pick-up order) of at least $50-60 total.

If you do not see an offer when you visit the webpage, then check back later or sign up for their newsletter. These sites do not always have promos running, but they are frequently adding them.

Food Delivery App Promos

Food delivery apps also offer discounts to new users, such as discounts on the first order(s) and free delivery. So if you have not used an app before, then look for these discounts for new users!

However, sometimes existing users can get free shipping or discounts as well, so check your emails and their Twitter pages!

Scanning Receipts

Another way to save is by scanning your receipts or shopping through these apps for cashback on products you buy in-store and online. To learn more, see my post on receipt scanning apps. And also, my post on how to easily save – cash back deals.

Enjoy the little things

Through 2020, I have come to appreciate the little things right in front of me a lot more during all of this turmoil. And that is something I would like to do in the new year 2021. So, I like to take pictures with my phone while getting outside and some exercise and fresh air while walking.

Other Small Things

If taking photos is not your idea of a way to enjoy the little things, here are some other ideas:

  • Express gratitude.
  • Get outside.
  • Write down what you accomplish each day – no matter how big or how small. It is a great reminder and a way to uplift your mood. So, perhaps you did a craft you have wanted to do or you organized a drawer. Take pride in your accomplishments.
  • Call friends and family to check in with them and share face time through virtual chats.
  • Take time to reflect on what you appreciate.
  • Spend time on self-care.
  • Listen to some music or a podcast. I love the podcast: “Help Me Be Me.”
  • And there are so many more, so do what works for you to appreciate the little positive things in life that you have availabe to you for free!

Gratitude

And I am so grateful for what I have. There is always room for gratitude. Also, many money making apps have options to donate your points to charities. See my master list of ways to make money for some money making apps.

Final Thoughts

While 2020 was hard, the new year 2021 may feel hard now for many still. However, there are many resources available to help develop healthy habits, save money, and earn money. Also, there are more ways than ever to interact with loved ones virtually.
