5 Holiday Gift Ideas on a Budget – Tips and Ideas

1. Do Not Ignore Sales

This cannot be emphasized enough.

  • You do not have to even know what you want to get someone yet. But right now we have Veteran’s Day coming up, Black Friday (and Black Friday 2018 pre-deals already out), and many more to come in anticipation of the 2018 holiday season.
  • So check them out. You may see something at a fantastic deal that is the perfect gift for someone. Point is: you never know unless you check. Right now is good to just see the options as they come up.
  • ALSO – do not ignore the sales on many websites such as Etsy.com.

Or check out social media.

  • Pinterest and Instagram are great here to see if your favorite brands are offering a special promotion for the holidays.
  • These can pop up at any moment, but some offer huge savings!!!

And sign-up for email lists, for good bonuses, exclusive deals, and an easy way to stay up to date on sales or promotions at your favorite stores.

2. Add items to your cart, wish list, or watch list for apps and websites and see if the price dips

How do I save on things I want on Amazon?

  • Easy. I add those items to my wish list or my cart (but mark for save for later). When I see them drop in price, then I buy. I have bought expensive work dresses for rather cheap using this method.

Try this with the websites you use. Or add a watch button. You never know when something you have your eye on can go down on price.

3. Personalization is key

This is one you may need to plan for in advance. BUT, with a little bit of dedication, it can still be totally doable last minute!

Here are my tips:

  1. Have no clue where to begin?
    • Look at gift items online, in-stores, on social media (Pinterest is great), and anywhere else (including the very many online options for personalized gifts available – see Groupon for some ideas on sites that offer this).
  2. See an item you like? Think of how you can replicate this yourself and make it even better.
  3. Think it looks hard to replicate or buy on your budget?
    • Google it; check Pinterest; check Reddit; just check anywhere! Ask someone at a nearby craft store for ideas.
    • Trust me. I am not crafty, but you can get the personalized effect without being that crafty too. (Perhaps with a little more guidance or effort, but it is worth it).
    • And it will be much more special.
  4. Best part? Some of these items can be at a great, fantastic price.
    • Want to re-create a shadow box? Create a personalized photo collage? And maybe add that collage to any item you can think of (if you want to not give a picture but rather give a mousepad or pillow for example)? Create a piece of wood with a few special photos posted onto it using wax paper???? You can!
    • AND NOW YOU HAVE YOUR ONE OF A KIND GIFT THAT IS TRULY PERSONAL AND SPECIAL. and what can beat that?!?

4. Use Cash Back Offers – Rebates, Websites, Apps, Credit Cards, Etc.

If you plan this out right, you can really maximize savings so much that it may get down to nothing. How?

  1. Rebates are all over the place!
    • Especially on websites (join an email list perhaps or a money making site that offers rebates which you can find out ideas on via my post on how to save with apps and websites). But also on mail, social media, etc.
  2. Use apps and websites.
  3. Credit Card offers and deals can save you big.
    • If you have a credit card with cash back rewards, check it out.
    • Do you have one that rewards you in say airline miles but you do not want to purchase an airline ticket? Many times you can use those to purchase other things if you log-in to your rewards account.
  4. Use your benefits you receive from your employer.
    • A lot of employers offer discounts and not just through the specific place of employment.

5. Never Underestimate the Tools You Have

Do you have some weird looking glass jar you may want to throw away? Why not turn it into a cute gift with some twinkle lights or by putting a picture onto it or by painting a nice phrase in there? Turn what you have already into something special. That is just ONE idea. But it is a way you can use things you may think are worthless and make them special, even priceless.
