Freelancing Benefits and Connections

Freelancing Benefits and Connections

The freelancing benefits you typically hear about are:

  • Flexibility
  • Setting your own hours
  • Choosing your rate
  • Tax deductions
  • Being your own boss
  • Working from home
  • Pursuing your passion

Freelancing Benefits and Connections

But among these freelancing benefits not often mentioned is a very important one. And that is the personal and business connections you can get. One client really inspired this post! Read on to find out who…

Connections in Freelancing

New Skills

By forming a strong relationship with a client, you may end up doing work in which you were unfamiliar. Why? The client has trust in you. This is a great way to build your skillset. Also, you may find a new area of work you thrive at and enjoy.

Long-lasting relationships

As a freelancer, you learn to form relationships for your self business in a new way. It may be a permanent position with a client or multiple clients that you enjoy working with (and that want to keep you on board!). Or something such as being asked to learn a topic you are unfamiliar with – because that client trusts you.
So the freelancing benefits extend beyond your work, but offers that nice perk of finding those clients that see potential in you too.

Personal connections. Plus great business connections!

Typically, in many online, side gig jobs, and typical professions at times, you may not expect to make a connection with someone. Both business and sharing personal ideals are great. And totally possible. In fact, I think it helps a business thrive to share that commanility.

But it is not always the case. However, with freelancing on your own, you can learn more about your clients. And you can form a bond that is, for me, something that is unique for only a few types of the many jobs I have held or tried.

Example of Freelancing Benefits and Connections

This wonderful client of mine – Bears for Humanity – provides plush toys. But that’s not it. Both in terms of products but in their mission.

The company uses organic materials. Also, they operate in World Fair Trade Certified standards for their workers. And so, they treat their employees and others that they do business with in high standards.

But it was always their mission. Also, they donate a stuffed bear to a child in need with every purchase. Which I find pretty awesome.

What Did I Learn?

So another freelancing benefit was getting to work with and know this company, including the owners. It has been inspiring. I know they were committed to their workers and also to helping others.

This has been so refreshing and inspiring. Especially during the pandemic. (And P.S. – check out their other company: Donor360. It is also charitable!).

And so a freelancing benefit for me has been that I have seen how caring a company and individuals are, regardless of any obstacles. Especially during difficult times like this – it is beyond refreshing to see the good in people. While this company may be new and small, they have a big heart. (My parents can vouch for this)

Personal favorite product

Because I love tigers so much and charitable causes, here is a favorite item by this company. They have this adorable organic Bengal tiger plush toy.

Final thoughts

Freelancing benefits are sometimes hard to see. And this is especially so in the beginning when you are first starting out. Not every client will inspire you. But if you hang in there, you may find a career in freelance work.
